GABBY TURNS 5

Our son, Gabby officially turns FIVE today.  Happy Birthday, anak!  Your mom and I love you so much!  Thank You, Lord for giving us Your greatest blessing.

In line with his birthday and in the spirit of sharing,  my wife and I segregated again his old clothes which we’ll donate to the children affected by typhoons.  I already brought few kilos of his clothes to my work for similar reach-out activity last week and we’ll do it again this week in response to the request of the organizers of Philippine Blog Awards.

This humble blog  is one of the finalists under Family and Living Category on this year’s PBA.  Last weekend, I received the official invitation via email to the awards night this Friday, October 09, at PETA theater in Quezon City and with it came a request for all the blogger-finalists and attendees and their guests to bring dry clothes, towels, footwears to the designated area at the venue which they will turn over to the recipients.

CONFESSION :  I’m a sentimental fool. I’m attached for a while to some things of the past that usually remind me of  remarkable memories.  Such things include our son’s baby clothes.  It’s not that we don’t like to give them away as most of them are of imported brands, but a lot of these clothes were gifts from my in-laws, relatives and friends.

Then again, we thought of finally donating them to the needy rather than keeping them with no use in our wardrobes. So these few pieces will be brought to PBA Awards night as our little pledge. We’re happy that we’ll donate all of these with our son’s consent. :D

His preschool, which is a few blocks away from our place, allows simple birthday celebrations during recess.  Since Gabby is a member of TGI Friday’s, TriNoma which gives him FREE KIDDIE MEALS for an entire whole year of dining with them and a free birthday package for 30 kids, we initially thought that we’re spared with the expenses for his birthday party this year.

But just like other nice things with little hassles in between, the free TGIF birthday kiddie package is only available for pick up during store hours, which we completely understand.  Problem is, our son’s school recess is at 9:30AM so it will be impossible for us to use the TGIF freebies to their class as his party food. Nevertheless, we decided to claim the freebies today and we opted to reschedule our son’s school birthday party on Wednesday, October 07.  My wife is free from work on Wednesdays this semester allowing her to cook and prepare all stuffs.

Tina arranged details with the friendly people of TGIF  TriNoma for me to claim the birthday package today at 1PM.  Since I’m off from work the whole day, I came to the resto with my cousin earlier than expected.

One our favorite venues for our dates since we’ve met is TGIF.  We like Glorietta 3 and TriNoma branches.  We go here not only for their great food in huge American-servings but also for the ambiance of this resto-bar.  Imagine ski and skate boards, movie posters, whales and big fish, a bicycle and road signs on walls to delight you as you enjoy your plates.

We only waited for 10 minutes for the staff to prepare these…

My cousin and I were surprised to easily lift  a tied-5-styro packs in a finger! They were so super light! I almost forgot that these are KIDDIE birthday packs! :D

IMG_4104IMG_4102

Each packs contained fettuccini in tomato beef sauce, chicken fillets and potato chips.

I asked my cousin to bring 10 packs to my dad and siblings and nephew and nieces at our house in Pasig City and the other 10 packs for my aunt, uncle, and cousins whose house in Karangalan Villagae in Pasig was deeply submerged in last week’s typhoon.

We saved the 30 pieces of apple and dalandan juice cups and the packs of plastic spoons and forks for Gabby’s school party.

Tina came home with Breadtalk’s Chocolate mousse with a free little yellow candle for Gabby to blow and make his wish.

Gabby’s request is a Spongebob Squarepants themed party during their 30-minute recess on Wednesday, so despite the fact that we’re on a tight budget, we’ll grant his wish.

Invites were already sent to his classmates.  He’ll have his Spongebob birthday cake, Spongebob-inspired loot bags and a home-cooked party meal courtesy of his mom.

Thank you TGIF TriNoma!

Thank you Gabby for being so obedient, smart, God-fearing son.

Carry on, anak!

Happy birthday!

CELEBRATE !

In less than 30 days, I will be officially a year older; hopefully a year wiser and happier.

Every single day, I am grateful for everything.

I guess happiness and fulfillment do not come from the parties we have, but on how we share our moments with our love ones and how we inspire them and others.

This year, I thought of celebrating my day by putting more MEANING into it.   However, since I’ll be working 5 days straight on the week of my birthdate, and on THE DAY itself,  I’m skeptical if I can still push through with my plan.  Don’t you wish your birthday falls on a holiday?  Nevertheless, I still want to make this year a different one.  Is this a sign of maturity, literally? :D

Anyway, before I turn thirty three on the eighteenth of next month, I am sharing with you what I had last year.

I went to work as usual that day, but because I was on a budget and got nothing to treat my colleagues at work, I just bought some pastries from Le Couer de France on way to work and gave it to the staff.  I was surprised to see that my coordinator came to office that day earlier than expected just to set up a powerpoint slide on our LCD projector screen with birthday greetings for me.   That was sweet. :D

Then at the table were our office T-shirt, and the biggest birthday greeting card I have ever received in my entire existence.  The card which I am keeping until now contained well wishes of my colleagues and my bosses. That was sweeter! :D

The day went on with my usual lectures on Medical-Surgical topics but as I call for a lunch break, two of our nurse-reviewees then reported back to class late.  I was clueless that they were caught in traffic or something on way back to the center after they had purchased a cake for me.

Then after my lecture ended in the late afternoon, the entire office staff and our bosses came in with another chocolate cake, pancit, tubs of ice cream and cold soft drinks.  What a way to end a tiring day!  C’mmon, not everbody is valued at their office but in ours, everyone is regarded as special – not only on birthdays but on a daily basis.

My birthday last year did not end without celebrating it with the people I love dearest; who else but Tina and Gabby.  I met them in TriNoma mall early evening to have dinner after my long day at work.  We were with our two friends, Rob and LG who dined with us in T.G.I.Fridays…

Sans party treat and other expenses, don’t you wish everyday is your birthday?

How do you celebrate your birthday?

KICK-OFF PARTY

As we took our lunch at T.G.I. Fridays, Trinoma a few weeks back, we were asked if we’d like to enlist Gabby to their Kiddie League Membership. Tina & I agreed for the rewards are great!

A membership fee of PhP500 entitles the kiddie leaguer to the following :
1. Free kiddie meal & drink every visit for one year.
2. Free birthday package good for thirty (30) kids with
PhP1,000 accumulated receipts within a month after card issuance.
3. Valid at TGIF Trinoma only.
4. Kick off party with freebies.

Then last Thursday, I received a text message informing us of the details of the TGIF Kiddie League membership kick-off party. We were more excited than Gabby to attend the event even it’s scheduled on a Monday. Good for Gabby that the party was at 3-6pm a few hours after his school. We know that such activity will give him a chance to mingle & meet other kids.

The staff was just preparing for the event when we arrived there earlier than expected.

We were given stubs to claim freebies at the party. Those stubs were for the free meals for the kiddie member & parent (yes, in singular form, but that’s OK, we just had to order something else to satisfy our cravings). There were also stubs for face painting, photo op with TGIF backdrop & photo op – memory charms. Giveaways also included a cocktail tumbler for the member that has a lemonade & fried fries & hotdog all in one, it’s called KERRIMO. The tumbler has oriental caligraphy (can’t decipher if it was japanese or chinese) but the brand name KERRIMO was only a sticker so I assumed it was only a local party distributor. It looks like this ….

We ordered Ceasar’s salad PhP 352 plus i requested for extra bacon bits PhP 55…

We also had Chicken Fingers with honey mustard dip PhP 263…

There was photo-op with TGIF backdrop…

And the photos were made into what they called memory charms …

Gabby also enjoyed being face-painted but it wasn’t as nicely done compared to his other face painting from other kiddie parties.

When the hostess-magician in a spiderwoman costume called Gabby and asked him to say the magic word, “abracadabra!” for her act, my son was too cute too say it instead he yelled, “rah rah rah!” which brought all the kids and parents into a big laugh!

Exclusively given to Kiddie League Members : Personalized tumble & stuffed toy…

Everybody went home that late afternoon with smiles & anticipation for our next TGIF Trinoma visit.
