ALL SMILES FOR GELATONE

Summer is truly upon us.  Heat is exhausting, is it not?  Even a flicker of a muscle will cause you to perspire because of the almost thirty-five-and up-degree-celsius everyday. And what a better way to beat the Summer heat is to enjoy a spoonful of your favorite cold treat!

Several days ago, my family and I found out that we’re one of the Gelatone’s 3rd Anniversary Photo Contest winners.  They’ve posted this picture at their facebook site with the sweetest photo caption…

And since its the weekend, we are announcing our 7th winner! The photo was taken during Gelatone’s Charity Event with AHON Foundation and Ateneo’s TOYH! Docgelo sent this photo of Tina and Gabby! Now this is a Mother-Son Team enjoying the Gelatone Experience! Truly, nothing beats FAMILY time @ Gelatone! Cheers! ~GELATONE

Winning Family Bonding Moment + Irresistably Delicious Gelato = Refreshing Summer!

If you’ve been following this blog, you probably know that GELATONE in Greenbelt 3 is one of our favorite food places long before we joined their photo contest.  This homey store has the warmest people behind those freshest and sublime Italian ice cream.  You know we always value good service + great tasting food.

And so after attending the afternoon Holy Mass at Greenbelt Chapel last Sunday, we visited Gelatone again  to claim and enjoy our prize….

Gabby chose PUFFO (Bubblegum), I had MELONE (Melon Sorbet), and Tina savored MASCARPONE (Cream Cheese with Caramelized Figs)! Sarap! :D

The friendly wait staff who attended to our table explained to me that sorbet doesn’t have milk unlike Gelato when I asked her the difference between the two.  I like them both! Sorbet cleanses one’s palate; perfect in between or after meals while Gelatone’s gelati, as I’ve mentioned, are just heavenly.

Did I already tell you that Gelatone also offers pasta and panini which are also a-must-try?

We sampled PANINO ALLA MILANESE; breaded chicken breast Milanese style with tomato. Yum! :)

Just before we finished all those tasteful merienda, Gelatone’s owner, Ms. Tess gave Gabby yellow and green balloons and suggested we try her freshly prepared Vanilla flavored gelato… It was divine!

Thank you so much to Gelatone and Happy 3rd Anniversary!

It was indeed a wonderful start of another great  Summer week!

COMMERCIAL MUNA FOR GELATONE

Dear kind readers,

Here’s a word from Ms. Tess Songco, owner of Gelatone in Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati City…

It’s time to give back! Gelatone continues to celebrate it’s upcoming 3rd year anniversary this April by hosting a charity event this Saturday! Proceeds of every scoop of gelato sold from 12NN to 4PM will be shared with Top of Your Head to buy books for the AHON Foundation. How cool is that! A yummy scoop of gelato to promote reading for the young in public schools! That’s Saturday, March 13, 2010, 12NN to 4PM.

It’s for a worthy cause so I am all for it.  I will appreciate if you can spread the word to your friends, families, colleagues and the entire universe. :D Thanks!

PS : Ms. Tess, Thanks for the e-mail. My flight to Tokyo is on Tuesday so we will try our best to drop by but in case I’ll be busy preparing for my trip, at least my blogger-friends can help you out with this charity event. Good luck and continue to spread God’s love with more activites like this and thanks for providing us one of the most delicious gelati in town!

GELATONE’S GELATO

IMG_2792

I don’t know about you but regardless of the weather, ice cream is always one of my comfort foods. :)

Half hour before we went to Greenbelt Cinema 3 to watch Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince yesterday (scroll down below for the post),  our son Gabby was begging  us requesting for ice cream.  My wife Tina and I, as usual, were too weak to resist, we immediately gave in to his want.

Our immediate choice was to try Cold Rock Ice Creamery (from Australia) located at level 3 of Greenbelt 3 and  it could have been our first time there.  But when Tina  was about to enter, I saw a posting at  its glass doors prohibiting cameras inside.   Why Cold Rock?  Don’t you want free advertisement without frills on my blog?  Well, whatever your reason for such regulation I wouldn’t care less, and it  wasn’t our lost but yours…:)   One establishment’s loss is another’s gain…Cest la vie!

So we had to go a level down the escalator and settle for an incomparable ice cold treat BETTER THAN ORDINARY ICE CREAM - what else but gelato from GELATONE!

It wasn’t our first time to try Gelatone but it took us a while to go back.  We already tasted some flavors of this Italian frozen dessert  (called gelato)  a couple of years back with our friends of more than 16 years who then were back in Manila for vacation. Gelatone since then, serves cold yummy treats but their small dining place is warm and perfect for small conversations between friends and families

Even though I didn’t notice any apparent change in its interiors,  it remained simple and comfy all these years.

Fair service + best gelato  = more than enough reason to keep coming back to Gelatone!

Customers have  options in Gelatone -  Order gelato outside on a cup or cone and off you go, or to have it as dine-in, just choose the flavor from the frozen glass stall outside and a wait-staff will bring it to your table.   If the order is for dine-in, a choco-stick will be served with the scoops on cups, but if it’s  a dine-in gelato on a cone, the cone is also served with the cup. Get it? Of course, LOL.   BTW, they also serve pasta and some sandwiches.

The hardest part in Gelatone : selecting from the wide array of flavors of gelato!  Looks like everything is a must-try!

Don’t get me wrong because I still LOVE regular ICE CREAM even YOGURT too.  I can’t imagine a world without them :(   For a kid-at-heart but a huge  man-at-stomach like me, these desserts mean HAPPINESS!  I am not bias with any of them however I’ve learned long before that gelato has less air than ordinary ice cream, making it more compact so what you’ll get is more of its delectable goodness compared with regular ice cream; it’s just all in the process of making this yummy dessert.

We tried these flavors for dine-in yesterday….

Gabby had his scoop of  BUBBLE GUM….

4

Our son enjoyed this flavor he even licked drank its last drop!  On the opposite table where we were seated inside Gelatone, a kid with his European-looking mom, was also savoring the same flavor.  Does it really has that appeal on kids?  It tasted like, well, Bazooka-bubble gum the way it should be.  At least the bliss that it brings to our own kid is priceless.

I ordered a scoop of this gelato of HAZEL NUT with DARK CHOCOLATE called BACIO NERO.  Pangalan pa lang ng flavor, ang sarap na!  Excuse me, I’m drooling as I post this, I need to wipe my keyboard, LOL.

5

I like chocolates so much that I wouldn’t pass an opportunity to enjoy it.  There was no regret in ordering this, it’s a superb palatal stimulus but I was happier to taste Tina’s choice…

6FRUTTI di BOSCO  or MIXED BERRIES SORBET was a winner among the 3 scoops we had.  It can deliciously clean your palate.  I love the berry-flavor that’s neither sour nor sweet; it was just heavenly, lol. :)

Each scoop of gelatone costs PhP 100 inclusive of VAT if ordered in cups and + 10% service charge for dine-in.

These are proofs of how my family happily spent our thirty minutes before we headed to Hogwarts yesterday :)

OUR SATURDAY MOVIE DATE

After almost two days of rains here in the Metro brought about a typhoon that hit Central and Northern Luzon, Mr. SUN shone again in the blue skies. Although there were still little downpour in between, important thing  was we were able to enjoy the weekend and had family FUN time again.

My wife Tina with our 4-year-old-son Gabby and I arrived at Greenbelt 3 in Makati yesterday around half hour past 1 PM.  We headed straight to the Greenbelt cinemas and bought these ….

IMG_2816

I’m not reading its book, so I cannot compare the 6th movie version with the novel of J.K. Rowling.  I am a kid-at-heart so you can’t blame me if I state that I like Harry Potter series and its latest offering, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.  I am just thankful that my wife is also into following the events in Hogwarts School of Wizardry where the main characters meet.

It was a revelation on our part that Gabby isn’t ready yet for such movie genre.  Although we’ve brought him to so many cinemas and watched movies several times already, and not to forget that this latest HP movie is rated as GP,  he got bored after 20 minutes of the film.  Why?  It was a bit talkie compared to the five prequels, but this one has more humor which is great.  Less of the actions, but was able to explain the secrets behind the Dark Lord Voldemort.  And since years have passed after the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was shown, the main characters of Harry, Ron and Hermione all grew up physically and eventually, hormones were ranging left and right!

Now, here’s the summary and some photos that are remarkable about this sequel of HP.

SYNOPSIS :   Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn’t counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simmering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again. ( SOURCE )

FROZEN

Yogurt is such a hit nowadays here in Manila since most Pinoys are already conscious of healthy living.  Well for me and my wife Tina, we just like to enjoy it so we’ve tried two of the many available brands here  (RED MANGO  and YOH-GURT-FROZ) and we can’t help but to compare it with ice cream.

Considering its nutritional value with lesser calories and fats and its taste ofcourse, usually served with fresh fruits and/or nuts, we certainly like yogurt.  But I can’t imagine a world without ICE CREAM!  It’s one of my comfort food.  There’s always that kid-in-me who craves for ice cream every now and then. Who cares if it’s summer or rainy days? Ice cream for me is always in season.  Although I already avoided eating dirty ice cream (sold by street vendors) after watching a TV documentary on how it’s prepared and done, I settled for the commercially available sorbetes.

I also like ice cream cakes.  I grew up having few of my birthday cakes were ice cream cakes bought by my parents from Magnolia Ice Cream House in Aurora Blvd in Quezon City.  Just a few months ago, we tried FIVE COWS  in TriNoma that serves frozen desserts such as ice cream and ice cream cakes.  We also liked it.  View my previous post about it –>HERE

The last time we’re in Greenbelt 3 in Makati, we tried GELATONE, a small restaurant that serves GELATO, or Italian ice cream. Gelatone has so many flavors and variety of gelato dishes to choose from. I just failed to bring a cam that time. So what makes gelato different from ice cream? I heard it’s the lack of air - gelato has less air, or none at all, compared to ice cream.

Yogurt, gelato, or ice cream, I like them all and can’t have one over the other.  All of them are delectable!

Yesterday, I and my son Gabby walked to the far end of our street  where a  convenience store is (what else but 711) to buy what else but ice cream.  I was sure of what to buy.

Since we’ve tasted all of the 3 flavors already (Hazelnut Brownie, Chocolate Truffles and Berry Strawbery), we have singled out our favorite. All of those 3 Selecta Gold ice cream flavors are decadent, but we like Berry Strawberry so much. Perhaps we had so much of chocolates (we usually got tons lots of them sent by my in laws from the US and it takes us few months to consume them all unless we give some to our siblings, nieces and nephews which we do actually) that we deviated our preference to something fruity and creamier….

    IMG_2003IMG_2002

With generous amounts of strawberries and richness of its cream, I’d say it’s just perfect for my palate, for the lack of a better word to describe it.   We finished the tub in two seating.

So what’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

I have to stop blogging this, I’m craving for another scoop.

Now, please excuse me, I need to indulge….
