LETTERS ABOUT TOKYO #14 : PASALUBONG!

Dear Tina and Gabby,

Despite the very limited budget and only 20-23kg luggage allowance from PAL, I still managed to get you some stuffs from Asakusa, Tokyo Disney Resorts and Akihabara as my little pasalubong for you!

From ASAKUSA TEMPLE, I got these ref magnets to add TO OUR FRIDGE MAGNETS COLLECTION

I got these 2 keychains as you’ve requested… (simple lang at maganda ang wife ko, keychain lang ang gusto!)

I bought a white Japanese tea-cup  mug with faces of Sumo wrestlers engraved as design for myself (not in photo).

I also got something for our friends –chopsticks! :D

These pillow and cans of butter and chocolate cookies are all yours from TOKYO DISNEYLAND  and  DISNEYSEA

(FYI, my wife collects tin cans, that’s how simple she really is! So I thought these 2 tin cans  with  Stitch design and embossed Disney characters would delight her more than its contents.  I also brought home a zippered lunch box I got from my dinner set in Tokyo DisneySea for Gabby) :D

‘ney, I got this ‘kikay kit’ for you with Minnie Mouse ‘s soft and chewy sweets inside…

Last but not the least…

Gabby, since I and your mom love you so much; not only because you are named 3rd Honorable Mention at your recently concluded Kindergarten graduation and has been awarded honors in your preschool’s Declamation and Academic Contests in 2 consecutive years,  we think you deserve something you really want.

(with Dr. BPS)  went back  to AKIHABARA ELECTRIC TOWN  a day before my flight back home just to get you this present…

This is your most wanted pasalubong, right?  :D I bought those from Ishimaru store in Akihabara; glad you like it, anak! :D

Now you have both your gameboy and this new Sony PSP with 4-gig memory stick to enjoy during the summer break!  But promise me and your mom that you’ll continue to be a good boy and a smart preschool pupil, OK?

I love you ‘ney and Gabby!

:D Tatay-doc.

————————————————————————-

Dear Kind Readers,

Beyond Toxicity will be celebrating its 3rd anniversary on May 08, 2010.  Because of this, I thought of giving away little something from my Tokyo trip. No, it’s not the PSP I bought for Gabby, but these wonderful pairs of authentic Japanese chopsticks; all yours when you join and win the small blog-contest that I will be throwing before this month ends (will be only open to all readers within the country and abroad who can provide mailing address within the Philippines ).  Simple and easy mechanics will be posted on the last week of April so stay tuned. :D

Now, who wants these chopsticks?  :D

This ends my 14-part-Letters about Tokyo series. Thanks for following!

MUNCH

After we gave up drinking Coke and other sodas for weeks now, I noticed we’ve lessen our chips  chichiria  intake too.  But in between meals and when we need something to chew, other than chocolates, we’ve been into some cookies and popcorn latelty that’s hard to put down. :D

I know oatmeal is healthy and I even tried them once but I’m so not into it until my family and I found these in the grocery shelf few weeks ago…

Now, Gabby, Tina & I can enjoy oatmeal anytime without the hassle of preparing them in a bowl and just munching it in delicious flavors! :D   Have you tried these oatmel cookies from Quaker oats ?  A pack of 6 with 3 cookies in a pack only costs less than PhP 60.  We considered it as an alternative to Gabby’s baon to school which are usually crackers or chocolate chip cookies.

Another good munch is popcorn! Do you also like popcorn? :D   We’re so into popcorn these days; we like ‘em for merienda and for quick bites :D

Have you tried Chicago Popcorn?  We’re so glad to spot its store in Shangri la mall few weeks ago; good thing they’ve put another branch other than their SM Mall of Asia’s.

We’ve sampled both cheese and caramel flavors and we like them both but not as good as the other brand.  Although, I personally like its tin can packaging that comes with a discount when brought for refill. A large tin can of Chicago Popcorn combination costs around PhP 190 and the refill with the can is only at PhP 130.

What about Chef Tony’s ?

Comparing the 2 popcorn we like, CT’s has bigger pops and more flavors to choose from.  I like their Dark Chocolate with Roasted Almonds very much and so their Mochachino while Tina and Gabby like Cheddar. :D

Chef Tony’s Dark Chocolate Popcorn with Honey Roasted Almonds (in whole nuts!) : My favorite! but it’s a bit pricey at PhP 210 per large tub. :(

Tina and Gabby go for Chef Tony’s Cheddar popcorn; large tub costs less than PhP 200.

What’s your favorite munch ?

WHAT’S FOR MERIENDA?

My wife, Tina, our son, Gabby and I are just like most Pinoys who love eating and eating in between meals. :D   Whenever at home, particularly during weekends, we usually have morning light meal few hours after breakfast or more likely before lunch. Same thing goes in the afternoon; a snack is always perfect as a prelude to dinner. :D   But unlike others, we oftenly skip midnight snacks for the fear of taxing our pancreas too much that might lead to its rupture during sleep; now that’s another topic.

Merienda or midday meal is one of Spain’s legacies to Pinoys that I am thankful for, aren’t you also? :D

Here are some of the yummies we enjoy during merienda.

Are you a popcorn-person?  Have you tried Chef Tony’s?  What flavor/s do you like?

I don’t know about you, but Gabby and I just love it when Tina fries fish balls and serves it hot off the pan with vinegar+soy sauce+onions!  :D   We prefer only fish balls cooked at home rather than those sold in streets.  And you?

Other than chips ahoy, oreo, or the locally made m.y.san buttercookies, lady fingers or broas (I love broas!), prima and marie (which reminds me of my childhood), I and my family also enjoy munching these cookies…

Try it, make sure it’s Double Fudge Sugar-Free! They’re heavenly delicious in each bite! :D

Sometimes, we have fruits during snack time and nothing compares to sweet and plump bunch of lanzones which happens to be in season until now.  Do you like lanzones too?

I usually grab two large orders of  Khaleb Shawarma for Tina and me as our merienda before we go grocery shopping.

We also like dimsum! Among our favorites are shrimp cheong fan and shrimp dumpling a.k.a. hakao!

And who would say no to pizza for merienda ?

or to either venti of frappucino, iced macchiato or any hot blends from Starbucks Coffee and pastries or a slice of cake perhaps…

Our latest to-go purchase was done just yesterday afternoon, soon after Tina and Gabby tagged along with me as I went to my dentist in Marikina, we spotted a carinderia that sells freshly cooked rice cakes…

Nevermind if it’s cheaply priced at PhP 25 per bibingka and at PhP 20 per order of puto-bumbong;  regardless whether these two are far from Ferino’s or Via Mare’s or even from Kamayan’s, what was important yesterday was the fact that we enjoyed our first bites at these Holiday season favorites. :D  If only we have muscovado, everything could have been almost perfect with Anchor butter and those coconut shavings.

Tastes, smells and feels like Christmas already! :D   Aren’t you excited ?

Well, we are!  Both for Christmas and enjoying another satisfying snack! :D

What’s your usual merienda?
