THANK YOU!!!
AND THE WINNER IS…
Four years of blogging. 248,232 hits and counting. Comments I value. And more importantly, blogger-friends and readers whom I so appreciate unconditionally. These and more are the little perks of having my own virtual universe.
Before you know the winner to my BLOG CONTEST 2011, allow me to share my own answers to my queries.
1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?
I’d like to be a chef in Paris, living with my (same) family and do nothing but cook and travel the rest of the globe.
2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?
Previous Noche Buena during the time that my family is still complete – with my grandparents still living and all the feasts meals I’m having with my own family.
3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?
Let me modify the question : Why have you been blogging for 4 years now?
I started blogging just to have something for my son (children to come, hopefully) to read and browse someday. I never expected that it would be an extension of my social life. Often, comments really help me in making a decision or post a reminder and at times, can be amusing. It’s more than rewarding.
How did I come up with a winner? I asked a favor from Doc Jane, who’s a Pathologist from Philippine Heart Center, an educator, a schoolmate in Med school and presently working with me here in Penang, with Tina to pick 3 choices after I printed all the participants’ entries. Both Tina and Doc Jane who are non-bloggers made their choices separately. I also made my own (believe it or not) impartial choice. The common choice stood as winner.
The unanimous pick :
1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?
-Hmmm….T\this is hard. But if I had to answer (remember my Wimpy kid post?), I would say I would like to live duting Jesus’ time, as a commoner, just to see if I would believe in Him then.2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?
-Ang hirap naman nito! Ang dami eh! I guess the last “meal” we had as a family before my mother dies. Kumpleto kami nun sa NKTI. We ate KFC in the cramped hospital room, as all members of the family were there. If I could have meals like that every day, I would.3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity?
-What can I say…I’m a nosy person! I love reading about other people’s lives! He he! Just kidding! Seriously, I feel I learn something when I read your blog, not to mention I feel like I’m keeping up-to-date with a “friend.”
And the winner is….*drum roll, please*
*Grace, kindly email me your address where I can send your prize. My email is at the “CONTACT DOCGELO” page at the upper portion. Thanks! BTW, you didn’t win because you were insistent!

I had fun going through all the entries but choosing the winner wasn’t easy. ALL ANSWERS are truly unique and fascinating! But like other contests, there’s always one on top. Because I value your comments, you know that there are NO losers here; however, there’s only one who can own those Tokyo chopsticks. And with this, I’d like to share the winner’s answers :
1. Usual family bonding is done on weekends, and they start with a hearty breakfast for the kids, some household chores done together, and in the extra time, we put banig sa sala, and play whatever card games we think of, mostly UNO Wild Cards, Uno Stack-O, Master Mind. Pag bored na, we get to insert some DVDs over the player and start tiring our eyes. Of course may meryenda, we are super mababaw ang ligaya so ok na kami sa nilagang saging, nilagang mais, buttered loaf breads, or at times may konting spaghetti or pancit canton being the family’s favorite. And we share the same interest naman kasi ng mga kids – BOOKS, so we crowd in a room and I read to my two kiddos.
2. If given the chance to eat my last favorite meal, it will be sweet and sour shrimps, crabs and pakbet. They are my super love. Ipagpapalit ko tong tatlong to sa kahit ano, wag lang sa pamilya ko. (LOL)
3.The best ang blog na to because it speaks of family, it tells experiences of a doc juggling a family and a life very much worth living. The food, the trips, the daily experiences, not to mention the no-holds barred rants about resto(s) and their kapalpakan. It also features whatever good is worth blogging. And what I love most in this blog is that, the love for family comes first. Gabby and Tina, congratulations for having Doc Gelo! And doc, happy blogoversary!
–SHENG of Anything Goes from General Santos City, Congratulations! (applause! applause!)
*Sheng, kindly email me your complete name, address and mobile number at docgelo@yahoo.com for me to send your prize via courier.
Once again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH to everyone who visits and reads this blog! Expect more interesting posts about FAMILY, FOOD and FUN in the coming years. God bless us all!

FREE MASSAGE, ANYONE?
My wife, Tina has been stressed these days, not because I am her stressor, LOL
but due to inevitable daily hassles -both at work and at home. Primarily, we don’t have a housemaid for more than a month now! Our maid got pregnant, so she and her husband left to their province down south to give birth next month with uncertainty of reporting back to work. God knows how difficult it is to find another trustworthy housemaid.
Other than people living independently abroad or solitaries in dormitories, I am not sure if you have experienced a life without a maid or at least to have ideas how hard it is to juggle work and household chores. I, myself do some laundry especially on my days off at work; thanks to the fact that our ‘jurrasic’ washing machine with spin-dryer is still functioning! Tina and I also take turns in accompanying and fetching our son, Gabby to and from his preschool and whenever we’re both unavailable, we can always import my dad from my folks’ place in Pasig to pitch in for us.
I want to give Tina a break from all those loads she usually get from her job as an Operating Room nurse-Clinical Instructor, and from fatigue-inducing roles she does at home.
Unlike most women, she hates shopping (How lucky I am to be her husband, right?). She will only buy clothes and shoes whenever there’s a need or an urgency to do so, say for an event or an occasion that we have to attend. She’s like my mom when it comes to prudence and practicality and admittedly, I am their total opposite.
We compliment each other and we like it that way
Tina prefers to eat out with us rather than buy herself a new pair of shoes or jewelries. She hates spending too much and wouldn’t want anything illogically priced.
Certainly, my wife deserves pampering. I would like to take her to a spa and treat her to a massage. Then again, if I get to spend more than our domestic budget, she might not enjoy the entire experience. Good thing that few days ago, Doc Grace of Doctor is vaIN, the 2009 Philippine Blog Award Best Beauty Blog, wrote a comment on one of my recent posts, inviting me to participate in her blog contest in which she’s giving a lucky winner a chance to experience Terra Wellness Spa in Discovery Suites, Ortigas, Pasig City.
What’s up for grab from this contest?
Terra’s Signature Massage – this deeply relaxing massage combines slow and graceful gliding strokes that are applied to the different key pressure points of the body to relieve tension and aid blood circulation. The experience is enhanced with the use of specially blended therapeutic oil.
Take a peek into Terra Spa…
Note : All photos were sourced here.
I do wish I could win this for Tina for I know she’ll definitely appreciate it; not only because it’ll give her the full-75 minute sublime relaxation (worth PhP 1,700) from Terra Wellness Spa but even affordable as it is, she loves anything FREE! Who does not want freebies?
If you want to join this blog contest too and would like to know more details and mechanics, click here. And to Doc Grace, thanks for the invite and more power to your site, Doctor is vaIN.
If luck won’t be on my side, I’ll just do the massaging for my wifey, but it might lead to something else, hehehe “evil grin”...
Excuse me, I need to go to ‘work’.
A WINNER NONETHELESS
Blogging has been part of my quintessential social life. It’s one of the coolest benefits that the world wide web has offered. You don’t have any idea how smiley I am whenever you (yes, you!) drop comments on my posts. And reading someone’s posts is not only informative but entertaining as well, that has been a party of my daily routine to while away time especially after a day’s work.
One of the blogs I follow is Anton Diaz’ s OUR AWESOME PLANET. Do I need to explain why?
His widely read site is all about my interests - food and dining, traveling and the thing that I like best – enjoying life with family. I only started reading his posts early this year and it became a habit. I usually comment on his entries whenever the topic catches my interest.
Last weekend, he’s one of the speakers of this EXPO DAD event at Rockwell, Makati which I failed to attend. A week prior to his talk, he conducted a blog contest to help him elaborate on his topic for the event. Anton asked his readers to voluntarily answer a question and the 3 entries with best answers win prizes. The question was “How are you creatively using the internet to help you in raising your kids?”

My simple entry revolved on how we use internet particularly facebook-ing as a source of our family bonding. My 4-year-old son has an account in facebook and uses one of its applications specifically Restaurant City where he becomes a chef and a restaurateur who finds ingredients and updates menu every now and then. Gabby enjoys it so much and it enriches and motivates his early-childhood dream of becoming a “Wolfgang Puck” or “Mario Batali or Anthony Bourdain” someday. —–> This was the synopsis of my short answer that won me 3RD PRIZE ! (applause, applause!)
And to quote OAP , PRIZES INCLUDE:
1st Prize: Overnight accommodation in a One-bedrrom suite for 2 people in Astoria Plaza inclusive of breakfast buffet (worth P5,279++) valid until Nov 2009. Astoria Plaza is located along J. Escriva Drive, Pasig City
2nd Prize: Regular Lunch or Dinner Buffet for 2 people at Cafe Astoria (worth P1,318++ ) valid until Nov 2009
Nevermind the first two top prizes, because my wife and I have been invited by Astoria Plaza staff few months ago for a FREE DINNER (which was nothing special to be honest) via a mobile call but the ‘catch’ was the fact that we’re invited to attend a promotional talk with the sales agents of that condo-hotel, or whatever they call their establishment for 2 HOURS!!! convincing us to sign and purchase a room to be paid on monthly basis etc. etc… How’s that for a modus operandi? Going back to the topic…God is really BEST because He knows I am more interested with the 3rd prize which I won…
The 3RD prize was GYMBOREE Annual membership Gift Certificate (worth P1,800) valid until May 10, 2010
To quote again OAP : On top of the top 3 prizes, I’m giving away one (1) complimentary seat to one Maven Secrets Hands-on Workshop of your choice for all the quality answers that I can use for my presentation in Expo Dad. You can choose from any of these Maven Hands-ON workshops:
August 8, Saturday: Photoblogging Workshop: The Art and Science of Story
Telling through photos (Fee: $99 or P5,000.00)
August 15, Saturday: Mastering the Google Adsense Game and Advertising
through Blogs (Fee: $99 or P5,000.00)September 5, Saturday: Professional Blogging Workshop: Writing Timeless and
Viral Articles Online and WordPress 101 (Fee: $99 or P5,000.00)
August 22, Saturday: Mastering Pay Per Click Marketing through Google
Adwords (Fee: $99 or P5,000.00)
According to the blog post, winner will be announce July 16, Thursday.
As I religiously follow my favorite sites including his, I am NOT SURE if I missed out as his postings the names of winners in the COMMENT thread on his OAP site in his entry with title Digital Daddy Blog Contest. Also, one of the rules in his contest was to CLAIM the PRIZE/S ONLY during the expo. In short, I failed to know that I am one of the 3 winners (out of 13 or so, submitted entries) and my prize was already forfeited for failing to claim it personally last Saturday at the expo’s venue.
I’m not pointing fingers at anyone, neither blaming myself for, the lack of better term, petty negligence on my part (???) to miss out the posting of the names of the blog contest winners. Actually, I’m posting this because despite the fact that I cannot claim my prize anymore, (I could have join them in that photoblogging workshop next month!) I am still glad because the blogger I follow have chosen my simple entry to his contest as one of the 3 winners and perhaps I can say that I have humbly contributed an idea to his talk last weekend. It’s really a pleasure.
