SATURDAY FUN

I had a LOOOOOOOOONG Saturday with Ity (a.k.a my lovely wife Tina) & our son Gabby but it was again a whole lot of FUN… and LUCK!

The first of our agenda was to eat at Pepper Lunch in Shangri-la mall. Since my comment card to those awesome sizzling meals that we had before was chosen as one of those lucky ones last month, I received a text message early last week that I am entitled to a FREE Pepper Rice Meal on my next visit.

Traffic was heavy on a late Saturday morning but nevertheless, we made it in whole piece to the mall & immediately hit the basement for another Do-It-Yourself dining experience. Before entering the fastfood, Ity already picked what she’ll order from the poster outside while I spotted the top man of PL himself, no less than Jeroen Van Straten. He doesn’t know me but he commented to my first post about PL. I just knew him from reading other blogs & ofcourse googling his wife’s chuvaness blog.

I was asked by the staff at the cashier to sign their list of lucky diners as I claimed my Beef Pepper Rice meal. After which, I ordered Ity’s preference. It was so sweet I only paid for Ity’s meal and I had mine FREE!
Honesty begets LUCK!

Ity had COMBO CUT STEAK & HAMBURGER
(Php 280 if A La Carte, & PhP 355 with rice & drink)…
Look at how it’s served hot & fresh!

A bit of mixing and “cooking” and voila, deliciously tender meal!

A couple of weeks ago I ate CHICKEN PEPPER RICE & liked it. But I just wanted to try other meal every new visit.
This was my PL plate : BEEF PEPPER RICE

Next thing we did was to walk to Megatrade Hall in Megamall to attend the 2nd day of the Nurse Expo as my colleagues in Allgen the Intelligent Review participated in the talks to attendees and had a booth complete with raffles & giveaways for valued nurses.

This was the booth Allgen had where nurses trooped to inquire about how we make them NCLEX-RN & IELTS passers.

Allgen people showed videos proving that we’re not only NCLEX-RN and IELTS review center but we do out-reach programs within our community such as medical mission and feeding programs enough to attest that we highly believe and support the potentials of Filipino nurses.

Then we strolled along Megamall, did some window shopping and few hours after, we decided to eat again. This time after sizzling japanese food for lunch, we had Hawaiian barbeque and rice (again!) for merienda. We had it at OHANA…

img_4357

img_43301

I had HAWAIIAN CHICKEN and PORK BBQ COMBO (PhP 149),
MANGO and BANANA SMOOTHIES (PhP 65)
Exta HAWAIIAN RICE (PhP 22)
img_4342

Taste was not bad, but I just thought that Hawaiian BBQ was not that different from the usual grilled meat that we’ve been eating here. Never been to that part of US yet so I cannot distinguish authenticity =)

Then right next to OHANA Hawaaian BBQ is KIDDY’S ART TOWN. It was already past 6PM but my son has still the energy and enthusiasm to do art works in this little kiosk for children.

First step: Select the design that the kiddy artist would like to color…
img_43721

Gabby chose the sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea :
SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!
We were provided with a small tray with RUBBER COLORED PAINTS in squeezable tubes, some pieces of cotton buds, tissues & small sticks that were used to wipe colors beyond the outline. The chosen design was put in an aluminum plate.
img_4363

Look how SPONGEBOB acquired his colors from his artists….
img_4366

All we had to pay for the entire art work activity was the design that cost PhP 180, inclusive of everything. Kiddy’s art town even provides apron to little painters…
img_4367

img_4368

img_43681

img_4369

And since the COLORED PAINTS used were RUBBER, a minute of heating in an ordinary microwave will complete the entire process…

Presenting the final art work…

We ended the day by sipping a dose of caffeine at Starbucks Coffee in the Atrium of Megamall. BTW, I was also given a stub 2 weeks ago at Starbucks Trinoma which automatically came out of the cashier register as I turned to be that day’s lucky coffee drinker entitled to have a free tall cup of any blend next visit after I did customer’s survey on-line. So my iced caramel macchiato yesterday was availed for FREE.
SOME GOOD THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE!!!

Having fun activities with family need not to be expensive; more importantly is to enjoy making memories.
Till our next family bonding! Thanks!

teaching & health care.
And here are the AVERAGE YEARLY WAGES of the 6 hottest US occupations which are recession-free based on 2007 census :

Registered Nurses….$62,480 per annum
Health Care technicians………$31,450
Computer Information Scientist….$100,000
Computer System Analyst……$75,890
Employment Recruiter & Placement Specialist……$50,000
Special Education Teacher….$50,000

Nurses, here’s the big reason for you not to waste time but to review and take up NCLEX-RN / CGFNS / IELTS; the basic requirements to land a nursing career in the land where CHANGES & HOPE personified by Barack Obama offer a great opportunity towards a secured future.

DOC is ON-LINE

Times are hard financially and almost everyone is affected by the economic downturn.   It’s wise nowadays to maximize ability to work whenever opportunities are available in order to pad up the domestic budget.

Aside from being one of the review instructors  for Allgen, conducting Medical-Surgical Nursing lectures for Allgen’s Intelligent Review program, I also work  part-time, homebased for asaptutor.com. It’s America’s premier on-line homework help website for college students to learn Accounting, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Science, Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, English, and Business Administration

I only cover homeworks in Medicine (Psychiatry), Nursing & Sciences for asaptutor.com’s clients, mostly americans and canadians.  Staff of asaptutor.com notifies me through SMS/call once they’ve sent questions through email in my field to answer. Then I look at it & read if I can possibly answer it, then once I confirm, we wait for the payment of the client before I can start working on the homework.
The work has a minimum deadline of 24 hours, so it’s not that difficult, plus as I have stated, it’s homebased. And the best part of it, they pay in US dollars per assignment, quote rates based on number of hours required to finish the task.

TREINTA Y DOS : how i celebrated my 32nd bday

I thought I won’t have a happy birthday last Thurday for I started the day with anxiety.  I was caught in traffic on my way to Allgen Review in Kalaw, Manila.  I initially planned to take a cab ( just like every Mondays-Wednesdays going to & from UDMC-SACI- my other workplace)  from our place in Quezon City to Kalaw Ave but the pathetic thrifty commuter in me kicked in and decided to take the LRT instead forgetting that I deserved to be comfortable that day.  I had to squeezed myself in the LRT train from Anonas to Legarda station with other people on the rush just to be on time as I am always punctual and never late in any of my commitments. As I dropped off Legarda station, there was no taxi cab for 30 minutes of waiting under the scorching heat so I decided to take the bus. Unfortunately again, I stood up in the bus from Legarda to Taft Avenue with my notebook and heavy stuffs on my back pack.  I thought I won’t be able to last the whole day for I am already dead-tired and exhausted early on the day when I was supposed to be enjoying.

I went first to Times Plaza in UN avenue to buy breakfast stuff for my Allgen family and reviewees.  Since I didn’t have a birthday blowout for them, I thought of buying them muffins & pastries from Le Coeur de France. Afterwhich,  I went straight to Allgen.

Thank God I was not late for the 9AM review.  The staff greeted me with smiles.    As I enter the review room, there was a  birthday greetings on powerpoint slide flashed on the screen.  Then I saw a literally huge birthday card and an Allgen printed shirt on the desk.

I love the card.  All staff including my bosses- the owners of Allgen and one of my co-instructors took time in writing their wishes for me.

The reviewees came one at a time.  One of them, Doc Cheryl, who is a practicing dentist and a nurse taking her Masters, gave me a gift she personally made- a rosary of transparent beads.  Then my anxiety that morning was replaced with smiles.

I did the Musculoskeletal lecture review until around 12:30pm then I told everyone to be back after 1 hour lunch break. It was already around 2pm when 2 of the reviewees were still missing.  l thought they went around to see someone or were trapped somewhere.  Then I received another surprise when the 2 missing reviewees (Kristal and Jen) came back and brought a cake for me.

I did the second part of the lecture and thanked the reviewees for taking efforts to brighten my day. But surprises were not over yet. The entire Allgen staff  came to the room with another cake, and ice cream.  I was struck by the moment when I saw the owners of Allgen also dropped by to greet me and sat in the mini-party.  I really appreciate it.

I am deeply honored to be working with these people who know how to value people by being so appreciative, so approachable, friendly and easy to deal with.  Not all employers and colleagues are grateful of one’s humble contribution.

Then I rode a cab from Kalaw, Manila to Trinoma in Quezon City to meet my wife and my kid and my 2 friends of 15 years.  We had dinner at TGIF and capped the day with smiles.

Rob, thanks for the gift and the photos!

The TGIF crew gave a cheer &  scoops of ice cream with a candle for me which  I gave to my son Gabby for him to enjoy.

To those who greeted me and took time to say their wishes,

THANK YOU SO MUCH. GOD BLESS YOU MORE.

CRISTINA T. SANTOS, USRN !

July 30, 2008. Lunch time. I received a text message from my brother that he already received the results of my wife’s NCLEX-RN from ordinary post delivered at my parents’ place in Pasig. I immediately called him and with asked him to describe the envelop as per Tina’s request. Because we know that according to others if the envelop is thick and large, the result would be negative for another re-application form & guideline will be inside but what my brother received is a legal/regular-sized envelop from Sacramento California. Tina told me to ask Mac, my bro to open the envelop and read the result, and the rest is HISTORY…

SHE MADE IT. I’M PROUD OF YOU HONEY. ALL YOUR EFFORTS PAID OFF. Thank you for listening to my nagging pieces of advice for I know that it is only you who can withstand my TOXICITY…

God is truly BEST. The results came out on the day of the inauguration of ALLGEN the Intelligent Review where Tina had her review for NCLEX-RN.

We thank the LORD JESUS for giving this wonderful blessing for all we know this will open doors for both of us and our son Gabby.

Thank you ALLGEN team for everything. I take pride in being a part of the BEST REVIEW CENTER for NCLEX-RN ! May God bless us more for us to continue to be a blessing for others too.

Here are some snapshots taken at the blessings of ALLGEN this afternoon. Visit www.allgen.net.
