(drum roll, please!)

My blog, Beyond Toxicity will be celebrating its 4th birthday on May 08;  yup! it has been four years of blogging about family.food.fun. :D

You don’t have any idea how comments on my posts since 2007 have made me smile from ear to ear, seriously comforted me particularly during my low moments and homesickness; at times I receive profound pieces of advice from people whom I don’t even met yet. I also usually get messages in my Inbox asking queries about things I’ve posted. My few readers and followers have been making their presence felt through their comments–be it sincere or amusing, everything is truly appreciated.

This and more are the perks that I get from blogging. Simple to some but for me it’s overwhelming! (mababaw lang ako!)

And because I am grateful to those who find time to peek at my site, here’s a simple blog contest with little token for all of us to enjoy!

Mechanics:

I. The contest is open to ALL readers, bloggers and NON-bloggers for as long as you visit this site.

II. Readers outside the Philippines are so welcome to join for as long as your addresses can be reached by a courier, haha!

III. Participants should simply answer on the comment section below these 3 questions that my wife and I are curious about (katuwaan ito!); we’ll share our answers too on May 08. :) Be yourself in answering the questions; have fun!

1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?

IV. The more entries, the better! (READ: no limit on how many entries you post). How do I pick the winner? The most interesting comment that will win the hearts and votes of my 3 judges (definitely non-bloggers) will receive this small token of appreciation…

iyong coffee table book lang po ang premyo, hindi kasama anak ko!

I found a coffee table book in a bookstore here in Penang about 3 things I love the most -Food, Traveling and Photography. Sa ganda ng libro, that has chronicles about Asian countries and recipes of various flavors (parang cookbook na din!),  I bought 2 copies, one for me to keep (the one Gabby’s holding in the photo) and another one for the winner.

I’ll post the winner’s name and comment on May 08, 2011

This contest runs now until 11:59PM May 04, 2011, Philippine/Malaysian time.

Thank you for those who will spend time to join! Mabuhay po kayo! Mahal kayo ni Tina, Gabby at DocGelo! :D

*PS : All photos were taken from the pages of my own copy, Food and Travels Asia by Alastair Hendy.

wow sosy. i love the coffee table book. teka question ibig sabihin i can enter a lot of comments here? hmmmm anyway here is the answer to your questions:

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

Ans. i guess for this one, i just like to go back nung college pa ako and be serious about it then eventually go to the states to work and be a renowned photorapher (naks) and be a traveller and be able to get a shot of all the places and countries na hindi pa na explore ng tao. Why??? fulfillment im thinking that in my past life mukang photographer nga ako hahaha.

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity

Ans. i love the blog itself. It’s family oriented and dama mo sa blog yung family bonding ninyo. which i truly admire.

More power sa iyo, sa family mo and to your blog. Sana manalo ako hahaha

    1. I’d love to be Ian Wright. That perky traveller lives my (and most people’s) dream job. Imagine having to mingle with the whole world and get paid for it.

    2. Most unforgettable meal would be the one my family had in this tiny restaurant in Tokyo. Our host ordered plates of the real Kobe beef (grade A5, I think) and there was one plate we had to eat raw! The marbling and taste was unbelievable, as was its price! Definitely one for the books.

    3. I added your blog on my RSS the first time I read it (I think it was about Pepper Lunch). I just love the way you write – unpretentious, family-centered and the best of all, unsponsored. Lol. I hope you keep it well, and wish you and your family the best in life.

    Congrats on your 4th year!

  3. April 7, 2011 at 4:30 pm

Wow, on your 4th year of blogging now!

Here are my answers to your questions):

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

I’d love to be a BETTER version of Imelda Marcos. Not only because of her poise, elegance and being imeldific (I also love shoes!), but because being the wife of late president Ferdinand Marcos, whom I consider a great president, she could have had shielded him from the greed for authority that led to the fall of his governance. I think that Imelda, just like most of the wives, should have been the strength of her husband. That includes walking hand in hand and rescuing her other half when he’s lost. Unfortunately, the authority got into her head, too. It would be challenging, but I’d love to be Imelda under the same circumstances she had — but as the person to show and remind her husband about the things that really matter in this life. That way, I could have had contributed to each Filipino family’s and the Philippines’ better future.

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

The flower salad from Bohol Bee Farm! It is extra memorable because I took it with my family. I liked the feeling that were were altogether in exploring new stuff, teasing each other that “are we going to die after eating all these flowers?”, that we depended on the judgment of the bees that any flower that they sip is not poisonous!:) By the way, the flower salad with that yummy dressing was delicious.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?

I follow your blog because I liked the combined transparency and warmth you share to your readers through each post. I especially like your stories about your family adventures. I appreciate seeing the photos of your wife and son (we have seen Gabby grew!). It’s passionately written that I feel that in case I’ll meet them in a mall or somewhere else, I’ve met them already and that they’re just among my long lost friends. :) Added reason is that I’m happy that you’re blogging about Penang at least I have an idea how pretty is the new environment of my closest cousin whose now based there. Apparently, she doesn’t blog much, but she reads your blog.

    Happy blog anniversary, Doc Gelo!

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

Hmmm, I want to be an african or a black. Why? Because I want to know their culture and experience it. They are highly discriminated, but in reality they are talented especially in sports. I also want to experience to live in africa, we all know that they have a lot of poor areas there, and living in the wild =) hunting!

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

My most unforgettable meal is eating frog legs. It was our(with GF) monthsary, and she brought me to a chinese restaurant, (she is half chinese). It was my first time to eat that and it was delicious =) The best part is eating it for the first time with my special someone.

3)Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity?

Actually it’s my first time visiting here ( thanks to google). The good thing is now you will have a +1 follower lol. Photography, traveling and food, three good things in life. I’m an amateur photographer, food-tripper and traveler. I love to do these things with my Girlfriend =).

.. i know i wouldn’t win, but anyway since you are one of my BFFL (bestfriend for life), it’s a must that i include myself in your blog contest, hehe.

    1. i’ll be a well-known reconstructive surgeon, somewhere in europe, with a loving filipina wife and three kids. why? because i wanted my life to be like that before (maniwala ka?!). haha.

    2. lucky me pancit canton, original flavor – because it reminds me to be thankful of what i am today (wag na ielaborate at baka maiyak lang ako, lol!).

    3. i follow your blog because i have to, hehe. honestly, not just because you are my friend, but you have shown through this blog how great a husband and father you are.. onga, walang bola!

.. more years to come for your blog, gelo! happy 4th! :D

  6. April 7, 2011 at 7:22 pm

Hi Doc Gelo! Happy 4th anniversary to Beyond Toxicity, of course I am one of your avid readers and I’d love to join in this contest for the book este for fun and for friendship, feeling ko kasi I belong in the long list of friends that you have, I feel important and appreciated pag dumadalaw at nagcocomment ka sa blog ko.

My answers would be like this

1.) If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

I would still want to be myself born with the same family but with a golden spoon in my mouth like the saying. If that is the case then we would have the means to prolong dads life, if thats the case we would have know that there is a non invasive procedure that could save his life and if that’s the case my kids will still have a Lolo to play with, I love my lolo too, sayang di na naabutan ng mga anak ko si dad who actually is a very good cook or should I say self proclaimed chef.

2.)What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

The first dinner meal in Dubai after I reached my sisters house from the airport. I brought them about 5 cooked huge fat mud crabs which I handcarry from the Philippines via Cathay Pacific in transit at Hong Kong Airport (layo ng lakarin at ang bigat). That was way back in December 2002, everyone in the house were all very excited to have it since it was a pasalubong from Pinas (sabik sa pagkaing pinoy) and in the table was my mom, my siter and her family and my brother, first meal together after one year far away from them, reunited!

3.) Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?

I follow your blog because it is sincere, because it is about a father who truly loves his family, a dedicated worker, father and husband. I admire you for that. Second reason I follow your blog is beacuse of the photos, even wala pa ang slr mo, the photos here at beyond toxicity are very inviting-parang magnet lalo na ang food, lalo na pag nagvisit ako ng umaga, pampaganda ng mood.:) Third reason I follow your blog is because I think we became friends already.

Advance Happy 4th Blogversary! Chos! Joke ulit! Ang takaw ko kaya no. haha. Kung kaya’t ako’y di na magpapaligoy-ligoy pa. Eto na ang mga sagot ko:

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

Answer: I don’t really know what I should in this. There are so many people I want to be like but of course, with this question I should choose at least one. However, I would rather not live a different life. (ang safe ko..haha) Sige sige, if i am to live a different life, I’d still choose mine (ganun pa rin ang sagot! haha). Where and with whom? Where else but with the people I am with right now. Why? I believe that the people and all the experiences I had in this present life would be a whole lot different with another. With a whole different life I’m not likely going to become the person I am right now. I may be better or maybe worse with another life. Whatever it is, kahit gaano pa ako ka salbahe, I still love my life and the way I live it. After all, I still want to know how this present life of mine would end. (Oops. Magdrama ba.)

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

Answer: The most unforgettable meal I had was the one my family had in Saudi Arabia. I was, I think, Grade 3 or 4 that time. We had a vacation in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. When we arrived there, we sure were so tired. The food that we bought, I don’t know what it was called at that time but I really thought it was “Manna from Heaven.” Yes, figuratively and literally I thought it was because you know Saudi is like in the Middle East and most of the happenings in the Bible happen to be in Middle East too. Basta “kubos” (dunno the spelling BTW) tawag dun. Then, aside from the kubos we also had chicken. I don’t know why I so enjoyed the meal even thought there was no rice. All I know at that time is that I am so hungry. Kaya ngayon, hinahanap-hanap ko ang kubos. Everytime my dad or a friend of him goes to Middle East i would usually ask kubos for pasalubong. Unfortunately, by the time that that would reach here, it sure would not be delectable as it would show the “signs of aging.” haha

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity?

Answer: Feel ko lang. haha. Lol. Well, honestly, I was attracted by the blog name itself. Who would not? But soon, as i followed your blog and read your posts my views had been changed. It is beyond my own impression of it. One thing I like about this blog is that you see things i cannot. These things are those that can only be seen by a father, a husband, a photographer, a doctor, a tourist etc. The way you see things and the way you write them gives me the impression of what it takes to become a man (chos!). Really. Seriously. It really is beyond toxicity.

Parang nag-e-essay lang. May epek2x pa akong nalalaman. haha. Pang-beauty contest naman tong mga tanong mo doc. Anyway, advance Happy blogversary doc! Good luck, god bless and more power!

    1. Hhmm not necessarily needed. I can still be the person I want to be, go to the places I wanna see, and do whatever I want to do! No one’s too old or too young to redirect his life. (pang Ms.universe, I know!)

    2. My bday lunch treat from Mang Arnel. Im hungry, and I have no money, and it’s my bday – what could be more memorable situation than a kind soul treating you lunch? Im teary eyed.

    3. Because you’re a friend. Iba yung impact pag kilala mo personally yung blogger, mas relate basahin. =)

Advance Happy 4th year anniversary to Beyond Toxicity!

    1. I would not want to be anyone other than myself but if I were to change something different in my life it would be in a different profession. I wanted to be a doctor since I was a little girl but along the way to college, the legal profession intrigued and challenged me. If I became a doctor, I would like to be an Ob-Gyn specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. An Ob-Gyn because I want to be part of the making of a family, especially to couples who have difficulty conceiving. I would like to be part of the reason why tears are flowing in a soon-to-be-mother’s eyes knowing the fact that the miracle of life has begun. Just like my Ob-Gyn who cried when she saw me crying that I learned I was preggers. And be the first to see and hold that miracle after 9 months and hand it over to eager dads and moms.

2.My most memorable meal I had was a spur of the moment reservation John and I made along Commomwealth ave to Antonio’s Tagaytay where I ate Grilled Chilean Sea Bass, the best cream of roasted red bell pepper soup I have ever had, chocolate souffle with creme anglaise and capped it off with hot tarragon tea. What made it memorable was the conversations John and I had going to and during dinner. We were BF-Gf palang nun. Nothing serious naman pero that trip on the way to Tagaytay made me feel that he’s the one for me. We were elated that we had a reservation because we knew its hard to get one and talked about every day things. Then during dinner, John told me that I amuse him when I take my first bite on my food because I close my eyes and make facial expressions and little sounds which signals him if I like the food or not. He said I have been amusing him with this craziness since our first date at Le Souffle. Mega-kilig naman ako nun diba?!?!? LoL

    3. I read and follow Beyond Toxicity because like the author Doc Gelo, I have a passion for both family and food. How discovering new restaurants and going to some trip or adventure make a happy bonded family. And sharing these private and treasured moments for all to see is somewhat admirable.

Thank you for opening up your family to your readers Doc Gelo through your blog Beyond Toxicity! Wishing you more blogging years to come!

  11. April 8, 2011 at 8:44 am

    Heto sali din ako.

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

*****Oh this question opens up a can of worms – but since I don’t like airing my dirty laundry out in the open I would answer it this way: As much as I despised nursing – i have lousy bedside manner, I would have taken that course. If I did, I would then be able to travel to different countries as an OFW before migrating to the US. I would have been exposed to different cultures earlier in life. I would have “grown-up” quicker, IMHO.

    2. What is your most unforgettable meal and why?

*****It was the gambas during one of our tapas crawl in barcelona. Nothing sweeter has touched my lips before or after. The shrimps were fresh and sweet and juicy and they were prepared simply with olive oil and salt and a squeeze of lemon juice, washed it down with tart sangria. It was the freshness of the shrimps that made the meal unforgettable. Here’s the link: http://calrat.blogspot.com/2010/01/las-ramblas-2-tapas-crawl.html

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity?
*****I thought it was so different from the other blogs I visit since you are a family man and 99% of the time you do these travels and food trip with the family. You don’t see that often, a padre de pamilya sharing his family’s food trips and whatnots, I don’t think I have seen a blog like this before. And your food porn is difficult to avoid.

  12. April 8, 2011 at 1:36 pm

congrats Doc! Happy blog anniversary po! :) shame, I should’ve contacted you before I hit Penang, I’m leaving early morning tom, I’m off to Ipoh. :( Anyway, sali ako d2, teka lng pag-iisipan ko pa ang sagot ko about the food. haha I want that book too! :D

    Cheers!

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

I’d be a Hollywood scriptwriter. Believe it or not, I actually planned it all out back in 2001. I applied for a Fullbright scholarship at the American Film Institute and I planned to live alone – away from my parents and friends and everything familiar – to start an entirely new life. I’d hobnob with the stars, maybe win an Oscar or a Golden Globe (or two, or both). Why? Because I want to show the world that Filipino writers can do more than just slapstick comedy, cheap horror, dumb-ass action, and sickeningly sweet melodrama.

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

I was seven years old and I was touring Europe for the very first time with my maternal grandparents. We were in Lourdes, France and my very first taste of real French cuisine consisted of a bowl of what appeared to be bony chicken wings in a rich, fragrant tomato soup. They turned out to be frogs’ legs! They were very tasty: the meat was delicate, somewhat like chicken but with a gamier taste that I found strange but good. The soup was completely different from the sweetish tomato sauces I grew up with: it was tangy – not quite sour – and rather fruity and fresh. The frogs’ legs were followed by steak-frites: a small, juicy tender steak (which my grandfather called filet mignon) with the crispiest, crunchiest fried potatoes. The dessert was a mound of roasted, mashed, and sweetened chestnuts topped with a lot of whipped cream. I’ve had French food several times since then, but I remember that first meal well because it taught me at such a young age that there was more to food than the rice and ulam I was used to, that there was a whole world of flavors for me to try.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity?
Tinatanong pa ba kung bakit?!? Hahaha! Your blog is one of the most honest ones with regard to food. I love how you and your family really savor the things you share with each other and how this sharing has strengthened the bonds among you. And your food photos look really tasty – so much, in fact, that I wish I could reach into my monitor and eat! :D

    Happy anniversary, doc!

  14. April 8, 2011 at 7:54 pm

    1. I want to be Mickey Mouse and live in Disneyland with all my friends and my love Minnie Mouse because I want to see people especially kids smiling. (…and I want to be cute and huggable forever. Kidding…)

    2. My lola’s ube halaya, her specialty for many years. But now that she’s gone (though she passed the recipe to my aunts), it’s not the same anymore. *tears*

    3. I love looking at your colorful and brilliantly composed photos. Great source of inspiration.

    Happy 4th year!!! :)

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?
-Hmmm….T\this is hard. But if I had to answer (remember my Wimpy kid post?), I would say I would like to live duting Jesus’ time, as a commoner, just to see if I would believe in Him then. :)

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?
-Ang hirap naman nito! Ang dami eh! I guess the last “meal” we had as a family before my mother dies. Kumpleto kami nun sa NKTI. We ate KFC in the cramped hospital room, as all members of the family were there. If I could have meals like that every day, I would.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity?
-What can I say…I’m a nosy person! I love reading about other people’s lives! He he! Just kidding! Seriously, I feel I learn something when I read your blog, not to mention I feel like I’m keeping up-to-date with a “friend.” :)

Papanalunin mo ako docgeo! Please! he he!

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?
I would love to be a cow grazing at the top of any of the scenic hills of Batan or Sabtang Islands in the Province of Batanes. Think lush green grass, gentle sea breeze, untouched and unspoiled beaches facing the Pacific Ocean, romantic lighthouses, and fantastic sunsets. GalangPusa will gladly trade places with this cow in a heartbeat!

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?
No meal can ever beat the Noche Buena fare that we stuff ourselves silly with on Christmas Eve. The meal is often loaded with high calorie food stuffed with fat, sugar, salt and cholesterol – a dietitian’s nightmare by all accounts. But we don’t mind at all. After all, we still have several days to go before we draft our usual new year’s resolutions.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!)?
I follow Beyond Toxicity because I’m a selfish cad (you give, I take and there’s no commitment involved, lol). Plus your blog appeals to my voyeuristic tendencies (I heart food porn!).

  17. April 11, 2011 at 11:20 pm

Happy anniversary Doc! Truly, your blog is one of my inspirations… ay wait.. sa #3 ko na isasagot yan.. anyway :)

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?
–> I want to be a bird. It’s a different life, right? Masarap isipin na you can freely fly high up in the skies.. no limits, no boundaries. And you can go anywhere.. with whom? syempre with the birds of the same feathers.. coz we’ll be flocking together. LOL

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?
–> The weirdest meal na natikman ko is yung cricket sa Balaw-Balaw (Rizal).. it was a crazy trip. Nasa office lang kami that afternoon, walang magawa.. so we end up talking about weird food combos. It was a yucky discussion, and one of my officemates suddenly suggested that we should try exotic food. Kinabukasan, sugod agad kami sa Balaw-balaw, and we had our first exotic food experience there :)

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?
–> I discovered this blog kasi Doc commented on my blog. Hehe. fellow rusher, right? :) So I checked it out, and I’m so amazed with the pictures..One of my frustrations in life is photography.. kaya hanggang tingin na lang ako.. and the pictures here: mouth-watering!! Everything about this blog is really great. And with this blog, you’ll definitely see Doc’s passion on food, photography, and.. his family. :) Seriously, I’m inspired by this blog.. kaya nga I’ve been trying to improve my blog.. para maabot ko din ang ganitong kagandang blog :)

    Happy anniversary!

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

Still an accounting graduate. Married to the same man. BUT should have finished my last recital piece in Yamaha Rustan’s. I still regret not being able to join the recital and play “FAME” before a big audience.

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

The buffet lunch at Hard Rock Cafe Makati back in 1998. I was thin back then but with a humongous appetite. Non stop eating from 11am to 2pm. It still amazes me how I was able to fit all the food in my stomach.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity

I love to eat but I do not try out restaurants right away. I value the reviews of foodies “must try”. The first time I read BT was when I was searching for a japanese restaurant. Then I saw the entry about Amici, went to Megamall to try quattro formaggi (if i remember it right, this is your son’s fave) the next weekend, loved the food, and trusted the Santos Family’s taste! Then tried Pepper Lunch and the list goes on and on. I also love looking at the pictures hehe

Let me have a shot on winning something. Here it is….

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

This the only life I’ve known and I am pretty satisfied on how it turned out. It would be great if I had Tony Bourdain’s wit and writing skills.

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

I had a great brunch during a vacation in Honolulu where I ordered a lunchplate of rice with hash cornbeef and homemade salsa. And since I am a creature of habit, I make sure its my first and last stop in the island. I also order the same meal to go and picnic at the beach.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?

I like reading your postings since it is personal. I am also curious what you been up to from photography and violin lessons, its all good stuff.

Here’s to more fun postings! Cheers!

sali ako kahit alam kong matatalo ako hehehe…

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

I want to be a very, very rich person with a big, big heart hehehe, of course with my same husband and children and family, sa Philippines pa rin (mababaw lang ako e hehehe).

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

My first unforgettable meal was spaghetti marinara, when I first came here sa US….straight from the airport I was hungry and didn’t know what to order and it was late evening na….my husband brought us in a restaurant na open 24/7…name ng resto Norms Restaurant in California…hay lam mo naman ako alam ko lang na kainin ay jollibee spaghetti yun bang lasang Pinoy lang….hehehe so ayun, I was shocked the server handed me a big plate as in “bandehado” of spaghetti…kala ko that was for all of us, yun pala order ko lang yun hehehe….hayyyy it was my first time to taste the American style….super asim at hindi kinaya ng taste buds ko, walang tamis…..waaaa mangiyak ngiyak ako hindi ko maubos at di ko makain (I was so ignorant hahaha)…I think that was my first time to eat in a restaurant too hahaha…grabe….

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity ?

I follow Beyond Toxicity because I enjoy reading Doc Gelo’s blog aside from the person himself hehehe, super bait na doktor kasi e, galing sa tyan ay sa puso pala pag nagcocomment hahaha…..through Doc’s blog I was able to know him better (plus Tina and Gabby and maybe plus soon to be made in Malaysia baby?? hahaha, aabangan ko talaga yan) and also lagi akong nabubusog sa post niya kahit diet ako ngayon hehehe…. lalo na ngayon mas nag eenjoy ako sa new DSLR camera ni Doc mas bonggang bongga dahil aside from food trip may travel blog na siya hahaha.

More power Doc and Happy 4th Anniversary!

  22. April 22, 2011 at 1:58 pm

    hi doc,
    I’M BACK!!!

i will be spending a chunk of my long weekend time catching up on your blog :)
but of course, i must join your contest!

    eto na…..

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?
    - still myself. but i would defintely take a different career. maybe a travel photographer or a chef. one that will allow me to go places and have endless time to capture the different senses of life.

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?
    - the most unforgetable are those simple meals prepared by my mama at home and shared with the family. i still remember mama preparing food while we stay by the table to tell stories with papa (when in fact, we just want to snack on the peanuts which are his “pulutan” during his afternoon beer break before dinner)… the best dishes would till be the homemade adobo, menudo and ginisang amplaya. even now, when i am bless to enjoy gourmet food prepared by known chefs/cooks, the ones homemade and share with loved ones remain “priceless”.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?
    - HONESTLY… main reason is, because you ahve always stayed in touched and always encourage me to come back and be connected :) … on another note, i like reading your blogs because it family oriented, very pinoy and personal. keep it this way doc!

  23. April 23, 2011 at 7:24 pm

congrats on your 4th blogsarry (tama bang word hehe)..your blog is the best of its kind..congrats!

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

If I were to live a different life, I’d be an artist. Someone who views the world in a different way and yet not afraid to show it to the world. I think being an artist– or yet being someone who is able to express his/her own views no matter how different, is freedom. How many people are able to do that? And it takes courage. Some place in the world someone might get killed for just saying something different. I want to be that brave and free, like an artist.

I love my family definitely and I wouldn’t want to trade them for anything, but if I could just tweak them a little, I’d ask for a little open-mindedness in a fast changing world. I understand how they could still be bound by culture and tradition but I think change is necessary fo us to keep up. Aside from my family, I’d still be with the one who holds my heart today (and probably one thing in my life I won’t ever change). I could be with them anywhere in the world and I’d still feel like home. But, I would love to live somewhere with a beautiful scenery– away from blaring city lights, pollution, noise. This would be heaven.

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

This probably isn’t something extraordinary or anything undiscovered I can brag about but as a kid, every time my parents tell me we’d be dining at Tong Yang, I get so excited! More than the food for my brother and I, it’s the thrill of getting to experiment with raw food and just add anything we want (and by add anything we want, I mean really weird condiments), wait till it’s cooked and decide whether it’s edible tastewise and then start all over again with something else. We’d always go back to the buffet table and take something new, something we’d never seen or tasted before and definitely have no idea how to cook or eat! :-p

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?

I shamelessly admit following your blog since its Friendster days and I could just spend time reading it. I love the family and food adventures, wishing sometimes I get to experience them too! Instead I tell myself, “someday, someday”. It’s inspiring. I read your blog because you channel all your passions for life here. I don’t know the little or big bad things that happen everyday to you or days that go awry, but I have this theory that the only way you can be interesting and genuine in blogging is if you enjoy life itself. Readers of blogs feel that. I feel it. Where else will all these words come from, right? :-D To cut it short, I enjoy your blog and life-loving is oozing out from it. Regardless of whether I win or not, I hope there’ll be more of these goodness in the future!

Happy Blog anniversary, Doc Gelo! Cheers!

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?

I want to be a genuine Ilocana and probably live somewhere in the northern part of the Philippines. Ever since I got the time off to travel in Ilocos I fell in love with the rich culture and cuisine of this part of the archipelago. I would want to speak the language proficient and boast for it. I guess, I want life to be uncomplicated like spending only on necessities and not on so much on ostentatious material possessions (no shopping therapy at all) :) .

Of course, I would still want an Ilocano husband who is hardworking and frugal :) .

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?

The first time husband brought me in Estero (Ongpin), we were still in boyfriend-girlfriend relationship that time. I thought he would bring me to some first class restaurant only to realize that we were in a hole-in-the-wall eatery . You know how it’s hard to say no when both of you were at that stage of relationship, no whining, no finicky; everything is pleasant even if it’s not. That left me no choice but to eat frog legs when he ordered a plate of it. It was funny because after that day, I begin to love Estero (except the frog legs) and the rest of the Chinese eatery around.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?

There’s no question that we share the same HAPPINESS –family, food and fun. Beyond Toxicity is like a daily journal, a guide to good LIFE!

    1. If you are to live a different life, what would it be, where, with whom and why?
I’d want to be Royal or a member of a royal family. I want to experience the kind of life they have. Though, I’d still choose my husband and kids as my family. So I’ll marry a commoner hahaha BONGGAceous!

    2. What is the most unforgettable meal that you had and why?
It has to be this deep fried TEMPURA green tea ice cream wrapped in chiffon cake in a japanese restaurant. I can eat that EVERYDAy, I dont care how much calories in there.

    3. Why do you follow Beyond Toxicity (shameless flattery, c’mmon it’s my blog anniversary haha! but honest answers would get a plus!) ?
Well, I like reading about food. I so love the pictures you take, it look very professional and I love that in every adventure that you do it includes your family.
