Licensed General Physician from the Philippines.
Medical Lecturer.
International Award Winning Blogger.
Big Daddy to his son.
Dr. Angelo Nino M. Santos or Doc Gelo to his students and blog followers has always been passionate of what he does.
His blog, Beyond Toxicity is basically about giving reverence to life’s simple pleasures :
FAMILY, FOOD and FUN.
This blog documents mostly the priceless moments I share with my family- Tina and Gabby. Posts are taken from our simple pleasures to our daily hassles. From our dining adventures on our own table to various fascinating food places. It also chronicles our few travels and other interesting things in between.
I am a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, a general physician, an educator and a blogger. I always try to wear my hats the best way possible.
I am always grateful whenever people find time to read my posts and somehow be inspired and motivated to do more positive things for themselves, their families, friends and communities.
I started blogging MAY 08, 2007 in friendster (oh yes, it was fs then prior to fb!) and transferred my posts to this platform 2 years after.
I’m a FAMILY MAN. I LOVE MY FAMILY. Cliche it may sound but MY LIFE ISN’T COMPLETE WITHOUT THEM. I am a father to my son Gabby who’s born on October 2004. I’m a loving husband to my ex-girlfriend Tina who’s also my personal-professional nurse (US-RN at that!).
My wife and I were born in 1976 making us both astrologically dragons!
I met her in med school after a year of anonymous texting and forwarding mushy messages to each other. We dated for 3 years and eventually got married and have been living a happy togetherness since then.
I’m a PHYSICIAN. I value my profession with or without active private practice. Medicine runs in my blood. Like others who are in the same playing field, I’ve dedicated a part of my life to studying healing both as an Art and Science and has viewed it as a devotion more than a lucrative career.
I am an ACCIDENTAL EDUCATOR. Four months prior to becoming a licensed physician, I am already a father & a lecturer. I have been teaching medical subjects and have been part of the academe & review centers for NCLEX-RN / NLE since November 2004. I was initially deviated into teaching rather than using my profession for a living because of an early domestic calling.
Unexpectedly, I enjoyed it. Teaching has been my second skin and have been good best at it.
(Go ahead, ask my former Filipino students! *yabang!*). I have been successful in producing thousands of achievers and professionals who have been an inspiration not only to others but to me as well.
I am a FOODIE. I love eating, who doesn’t? I am so fascinated when food is served with so much efforts and impeccable taste! I like Filipino, Japanese, Italian, some Continental and Spanish dishes. I wish before my geriatric years, I can find time to learn how to cook-like-an-iron-chef. Perhaps I can enroll in culinary school as my son’s classmate in the future. :D Here’s to more gastronomic adventures!
I am a TRAVELER. I have an itchy feet for traveling. I always thank the good Lord for giving me the chance to experience USA (from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Fresno, Sequioia & Yosemite in California to hotels and casinos in Las Vegas), Tokyo, Japan, Hong Kong, Auckland, New Zealand, Bendar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darrusalam, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Hat Yai, Thailand, Singapore, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and Kelantan in Malaysia and still counting… My ULTIMATE DREAM VACATION is to experience EUROPE with my family someday.
I am a BLOGGER and this is my VIRTUAL HOME.
Welcome and enjoy the posts!
God bless!
cheers,
docgelo

Hi Docgelo,
I stumble on your site when I googled “talangkanin” recipe. I have to search for that talangka or crab fat sa oriental store here in Wisconsin. I really would want to try the recipe you’ve shared though you said it’s rich.
I look forward to hearing that you have finally made it to Paris and other great cities in Europe. Europe is my personal favorite as it offers so much great history in the world! When you make it there, you make it everywhere!
Best wishes to you and your family!
Lynne
Hello Ms. Lynne,

Hi docgelo1 I’m not a blogger yet but would love to be one someday. Anyhow, nice family you have! I jst enjoy reading your blogs in all of your travels. I’m here in the US and planning to have a vacation in 2012. I would love to go places aside from just visiting my hometown Vigan…maybe I can use your expertise and will ask you certain places that I would love to visit…in Pinas, I would love to visit Boracay..in Asia, I would like to visit Singapore again with family this time and perhaps Hongkong? Any suggestion for a place that’s worthwhile to visit? Thanks!
hi jing!
your message made me smile.
i’ll get back to it after 2 hours *have to attend work first* hehehe
i like your hometown and plan to revisit vigan someday too.
i’m not an expert in travel but only loves traveling; who doesn’t?
i and my family had visited boracay for 3 days only last year and we enjoyed it so much. it’s one of our most memorable vacation ever.
of course we’ve also been to auckland, new zealand, brunei, bangkok, hongkong and i myself without them have been to tokyo and US too but only to east coast (san francisco, san diego, las vegas and LA)…
my friends and i are also planning to go to singapore soon or perhaps explore other parts of malaysia.
my unsolicited advice is wherever you go or wherever you’ll spend your vacation, do not forget to create your own adventure! have fun and share the experience with your love ones.
I loved reading your About Me Page, because I can somehow see myself in you. I’m not a physician, but I am also in the medical field – a nurse who also happens to love to eat, travel and blog. I’m family oriented as well and I also hope to become an educator one day. The best of blessings to you, doc Gelo. You have a wonderful family. I super enjoyed back reading your posts!:)
you don’t have any idea how your comment made my day, meedge.
thank you for those sweet words and thank you for reading my posts.
cheers!

Dear Dr. Gelo,
We are creating a site for world-class physicians. You can view the site at:
http://physiciannexus.com/profiles/members/
a
Physician Nexus offers immeasurable benefits to physicians such as collaboration with other fellow physicians, career opportunities, curbside consults and referrals. It is ready for launch soon.
To help us ensure that the site have a vast of vital information, we are looking for leading Filipino physicians like you to work with us 5 hours a week.
You are to be an online forum moderator for your specialty. The forum moderator will be reponsible for determining, on a monthly basis, the 5 most important questions that emerge within that speciality that month. This will generally revolve around approval of new healthcare services approvals, whether new (1) medications (2) procedures (3) devices (4) surgical techniques, or (5) diagnostic tests (imaging or lab).
By way of example, we might be interested to know if drug eluting stents are perceived superior to non-drug eluting stents for patients with coronary artery occulsions. Other examples would include immediate physician feedback on techniques like LASIK surgery. The goal of the moderator is to determine “the most important 5 questions of the month”, and to stimulate, and organize, the dialogue that ensues. This will require weekly polling of regulatory approval websites, like the US FDA, to see what is new. It will also entail reviewing the peer-reviewed literature and medical professional news of the specialty.
Imagine being able to engage and connect with world-class physicians and boost your earnings and reputation at the same time!
Please send us email to physiciannexus11@gmail.com if you are interested. Please include your recent curriculum vitae, including professional and academic affiliations with major universities and medical centers. Include prior publications, research experience, and other evidence of thought leadership, and at least 3 professional references (US physician references are a strong plus).
Regards,
Omar Baig
Dear Omar Baig,
